Betadine is an antiseptic and disinfectant. Released from the complex with polyvinylpyrrolidone upon contact with the skin and mucous membranes, iodine forms iodamines with bacterial cells, coagulates them and causes the death of microorganisms. It has a bactericidal effect on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (with the exception of Mycobacterium tuberculosis).
Active against bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoa.
Suppositories are made on a water-soluble basis and do not have an irritating effect.

Dosage and administration

After preliminary hygienic treatment, suppositories are injected deep into the vagina.
In acute vaginitis, 1 vaginal suppository is prescribed 2 times / day for 7 days.
In case of subacute and chronic vaginitis, 1 suppository is prescribed 1 time / day before bedtime for 14 days. If necessary, the course of treatment can be extended.

Side effects

Perhaps: a local manifestation of an allergic reaction to iodine (itching, hyperemia), which requires the withdrawal of the drug.

Drug interaction

Betadine is incompatible with other disinfectants and antiseptics, especially those containing alkalis, enzymes and mercury.
