Pharmacological action

Pharmacotherapeutic group: direct-acting anticoagulant agent for topical use

Pharmacological properties

Sodium heparin is a direct-acting anticoagulant. It prevents thrombosis, inhibits hyaluronidase activity, activates fibrinolytic properties of blood.

When applied topically, it has a local antithrombotic, anti-edematous and anti-inflammatory effect, improves blood microcirculation and activates tissue metabolism, which accelerates the resorption of hematomas and blood clots, reduces swelling of tissues.

Insignificant amount of heparin is absorbed from the skin surface into the systemic bloodstream. The maximum concentration of the drug in the blood is observed 8 hours after application. Excretion of heparin mainly occurs through the kidneys, half-life is 12 hours. It does not penetrate the placental barrier.

    Superficial vein diseases: varicose veins, chronic venous insufficiency and related complications (superficial thrombophlebitis, superficial periphlebitis);
    blunt traumas and soft tissue contusions;
    subcutaneous hematomas, including hematomas after vein surgeries, phlebectomy;
    localized infiltrates and edema of soft tissues.

Use in pregnancy and lactation
Lyoton® 1000 may be used in pregnancy and during breastfeeding if the expected benefit to the mother exceeds the potential risk to the fetus and child. Heparin does not penetrate through the placental barrier and into breast milk. Due to insignificant absorption of heparin during external application, the drug has no systemic effect on the body. However, before using Lyoton® 1000 in pregnancy and during breastfeeding it is necessary to consult a doctor.

    hypersensitivity to heparin or other components of the drug;
    violation of skin integrity at the site of application of the drug (ulcerative-necrotic skin changes); traumatic violations of skin integrity (open wounds);
    increased tendency to bleeding, thrombocytopenia;
    age under 18 years (safety and efficacy of the drug has not been studied).

Side effects
In very rare cases (< 1/10000), hypersensitivity reactions to heparin may occur during external application. In some cases (frequency unknown: it is impossible to estimate according to the available data) may be observed allergic reactions to the components of the drug, manifested by redness of the skin and / or itching, which usually pass after discontinuation of the drug. If you have side effects specified in the instructions, or they worsen, or you notice any other side effects not specified in the instructions, inform your doctor.

With prolonged use of heparin on large areas of the skin and concomitant use of indirect anticoagulants (warfarin, acenocoumarol, etc.), prothrombin time and clotting time should be monitored.

It is not recommended to mix with other agents for external use. Concomitant use with topical preparations containing tetracyclines, antihistamines or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is not recommended. If you use the above or other medicines (including over-the-counter), consult your doctor before using Lyoton® 1000.
